Counselling
Supporting your wellbeing, one conversation at a time
From November, KCU is supporting a Level 4 Counselling student, Lucy, as she develops her counselling skills and gains experience within a community setting.
Lucy offers a safe, welcoming and confidential space where you can talk about what is happening in your life, without judgement. Sometimes simply having someone listen can make a real difference.
What can Lucy support you with?
Lucy can offer a listening ear and supportive conversations around things like:
Feeling overwhelmed, stressed or anxious
Low confidence or self esteem
Difficult emotions
Relationship or family difficulties
Bereavement and loss
Loneliness or isolation
Life changes and challenges
Coping with difficult experiences
Everyday worries and concerns
She can help you explore what you are experiencing, understand your feelings and find ways of coping that work for you.
A safe space to talk
You don’t need to have all the answers before you come along. Lucy is there to listen, support and help you explore what is important to you. You will be treated with dignity, respect and without judgement.
What does Level 4 mean?
Lucy is currently training towards a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and is developing her skills under supervision as part of that training. She is not yet a qualified counsellor, and her role is to provide supportive counselling practice within the boundaries of her training and placement.
Where someone needs specialist or higher level support, KCU can help signpost or refer them to an appropriate service.
Confidentiality
Conversations are treated respectfully and confidentially, within the limits of safeguarding and Lucy’s professional responsibilities. If there is a concern that someone may be at risk of serious harm, confidentiality may need to be broken so that the right support can be provided. These limits will be explained to you before any counselling begins.
Who can access support?
Support is available to people using KCU services who would benefit from a safe space to talk. If you would like to find out more, speak to a member of the KCU team or use the form below.
You don’t have to face everything on your own. KCU is here to listen.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I EXPRESS AN INTEREST?
Submitting the form does not automatically mean counselling will begin. A member of the KCU team will contact you to discuss your request and explain the next steps.
If student counselling is right for you, you will have the chance to talk through what you would like support with, what counselling involves, confidentiality and its limits, Lucy’s role as a student counsellor, how sessions will work, and your consent to take part. You can ask questions before deciding whether to go ahead.
IMPORTANT
Student counselling is not an emergency or crisis service. If you need specialist support, or if student counselling is not right for your circumstances, KCU will talk through other sources of support with you.
Taking part is your choice, and you can stop at any time.
